The first stage of the writing process
can be just as baffling as the previous picture
In fact, we've all sat in a chair frustrated for hours with a blank document not knowing what to write about. Even our professor,who writes as his profession, looks like those emojis (especially the third one) when he begins his writing process.

step in deciding a topic to write about. Even
though this sounds seemingly easy, we as writers know that this step is a pain in the butt and difficult to conceptualize. One major reason is the confusion that is associated with brainstorming
Brainstorming is a continual trial and error process where we select the best topic and discard the rest.
There are two instances in which brainstorming occurs:
The first instance- Struggling to Develop a Topic
In this step we often become stressed when looking for a potential topic
The second instance- Narrowing Down a Topic
Cases like this come about when we have too many topics. It can be very difficult to select just one!
Personally, for the first essay, I had no clue what to write about. In that essay, we had to "consider the relationship between a memorable aspect of your personal experience and its broader cultural or political significance."
How do the events in our lives possess any larger political or cultural meaning? I thought, "I'm only a teenager; nothing important has really happened yet in my life."
As I sat in my chair pondering for hours, I began to realize that I was overlooking the essay topic. From there, I took simple steps that I was able build upon my essay from.
After trying to start on simpler terms, I chose to consider my experience back when I was a track and field sprinter. "What does this have to do with anything," I'd asked myself.
I'd found the solution quickly. My experience demonstrates favoritism and how some people are easily given the upper hand in this world while others don't have that luxury.
As you can see, by simply choosing an experience during my life I was able to branch off and discover a meaning for it.
Conclusion to dealing with no ideas:
**When faced with a topic that seems difficult, break the question into smaller pieces and try to answer each component separately. Connect them at the end so that each piece is flows as an entire piece.
**Initially, get the notion out of your head that this topic cannot be done. Gain confidence in yourself and believe it can be done. The essay isn't difficult; your making it harder than it really is.
** Select a topic that is simultaneously simple but one that can also expand completely to make your essay function properly in addressing all of its requirements.
Post Brainstorming Step- Outline
After brainstorming a topic, it's always a good idea to get it approved by your professor who can provide a professional opinion and feedback.
If approved, it's helpful to create the outline, in which the organization of the paper is established.
If topic is not approved, it's back to the drawing board... you don't want to be off topic, or irrelevant in your paper.

When faced with this dilemma, I always narrow down my decision to which claim will be the
when writing my essay. I evaluate the risk and benefits of each topic and which ever I conclude has the
most benefit with the least amount of risk
is the best option to chose when writing an essay.
Most importantly, I always look for which ever topic can give me the best projected grade!!!
After all, my grade does depend on my topic so choosing one that will aid in a potential A is critical.!
Now that a topic is decided, there's more work to
do. We have to transform or expand that topic into an essay.

The outline of our essay is analogous to the foundation of a building. Without the foundation for a building, it will collapse and so will our essays.
Outlining what each paragraph is going to entail is critical for the construction of an essay.
While researching it is helpful to take notes in order to include any beneficial information found
When doing research you may be overwhelmed by the amount of results if using a basic search like google.
After finishing my research
Properly cite any sources used
Ensure rubric criteria is met
Include potential improvements suggested (by teacher or peer)
After completing my rough draft, go back to the paper and do more in depth research on each topic selected
Each paragraph must relate back to thesis and appropriately support thesis
Finding Information for Supporting Your Claims
This is the most time consuming and frustrating process because your whole essay is based off of what you brainstorm about.
Develop main point of essay
Determine number of body paragraphs necessary
Distinguish which types of sources you need to incorporate
Use outline as basis
Refer to rubric guidelines
Incorporate sources as you write
Write in a quiet environment
*Have peers/ teacher read paper
Use or consider suggestions provided by editor (peer, teachers)

Stop, take a breather, and then begin the revision process!
What is reconstruction?
The reconstruction of an essay is defined as a process of rethinking, reediting, and making changes to a piece of writing to improve it.
Taking a fresh perspective is a truly critical step
Wait as long as possible between writing rough draft and reconstruction/ revision
Print a hard copy
Read it out loud to fix body structure
Is the thesis maintained?
Peer review or ask a friend to read
Proofreading is also a big part of reconstruction
Once again read the paper out loud or have the paper read aloud
