Nutrition
•An adult who has a BMI between 25 and 29.9 is considered overweight.
•An adult who has a BMI of 30 or higher is considered obese.
The Need to Feed
Results in many adaptations.
Most animals spend a majority of their energy and time searching for and securing food.
Some animals have a feast and famine metabolism so they gorge themselves when food is plentiful and go many days without food when it is scarce.

kwashiorkor: enough calories but not enough protein and the blood can't take up water from the body cavities resulting in edema.

Most diets have enough fat but there is evidence that one needs to make sure to have linoleic acid and a balance between omega 3 and omega 6 fats.

American society has become 'obesogenic,' characterized by environments that promote increased food intake, nonhealthful foods, and physical inactivity. the CDC
Obesity is defined as a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or greater. BMI is calculated from a person's weight and height and provides a reasonable indicator of body fatness and weight categories that may lead to health problems. Obesity is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, certain types of cancer, and type 2 diabetes.
