Proper Fractions Improper Fractions A proper fraction is a fraction that has a numerator that is smaller then its denominator. Fractions Fractions Proper Fractions, Improper Fractions and Mixed Numbers A fraction with a numerator that is larger then its denominator (cc) photo by Jakob Montrasio Mixed Numbers eg. 3/4 is a proper fraction because 3 is smaller then 4. 6/4 is improper because 6 is larger then 4. An improper frcation that has been turned into a whole number. 1 2/4 is a mixed number because in truth it is acutaly 6/4. A fraction is any part or portion of a whole or of something A fraction improper or proper can also be seen as or used as a division problem. 6/4 could also mean 6 divided by 4 which would be 1.5
