"Smoking isn't just suicide.
It's murder.''

By: Taelor Owens
ENG 101
December 4th, 2014
I chose this Ad because...
This ad as well as many other people caught my attention immediately.
I also chose this ad because, I myself can not stand smoking and I think it's affect on the person themselves and others needs to be addressed.
Summary of my paper:
Why I enjoyed writing this paper/what I liked:
How do these images appeal to logos, ethos, and pathos?
What I learned from this paper,
What I learned about myself as a writier:
The creators logical appeal in this visual is simply to imply that smoking is both ways of performing suicide and murder. Suicide for the smoker because they are killing themselves, and murder for other around them inhaling their second hand smoke.
The credibility of this ad is used very well also because the visual has such a strong meaning behind it. Not only is the author attempting to stop cancer, he is also attempting to put a stop to ways that lead to these different types of cancers and illnesses. Also, the CONAC Chilean Corporation Against Cancer has used this advertisement for an anti-smoking ad in hopes to persuade parents who smoke and have children to stop.
The emotional appeal is a very strong one too. The main idea is to get people who view this to become disgusted with people who put smoke around others, especially innocent toddlers. Also, a smoker who views this who may have a similar lifestyle to this with kids and such, the visual may finally open their eyes to see ways in which their kids and others around them are suffering from the smoke. This advertisement can have some very sad, negative effects on it's viewers, depending on who they are.
ALthough I had a higher grade on this paper, I did find out alot of different thing's that I needed to work on. However I feel that this paper allowed me to have more freedom wiht what I wrote about and I enjoyed that,
My paper was about this anti-smoking advertisement. Through the paper, I discussed many different thing's:
The intended audience for this Ad
the visual effects used to grab the audiences attention.
The authors appeals to logos, ethos, and pathos.
What I learned about myself as a writer through this paper is that I enjoyed it way more than the others, mainly because I do not like talking about myself.
I much rather enjoy analyzing thing's and including my opinions as well as others opinions because everyone has such different views on everything.
The reason I chose this paper was for many different reasons:
I find it easiest to do papers where you have to analyze thing's
We did many of these kinds of papers in High school
I really like this ad overall which made it easier to write about.
It was also interesting to see all of the different opinions of this ad because there were many different views on it.

Stand-Alone Essay:
Ad Analysis

I have chosen this ad for my stand- alone essay in my portfolio, because:
It is the essay that I personally feel was my best work.
It actually gives a visual of the ad being described in my paper.
It is simply the most interesting one.
