Like Antonio and Felix in “Amigo Brothers,” Piri Thomas (1928 ) grew up in a rough neighborhood in New York City. Unfortunately, he wasn’t as lucky as Antonio and Felixhe didn’t have a sport like boxing to help him escape the lures of drugs and crime. As a result, Thomas spent time in prison. While in prison, Thomas discovered he could write, and after his release he published an autobiography called Down These Mean Streets (1967). Thomas has worked for many years to help drug addicts give up their addictions and start new lives.
