Number lines can be used to make adding and subtracting integers easier.
A number line has 0 in the center, the negative numbers on the left side, and the positive numbers on the right side.
Positive Number
Integers
An integer is a number and its opposite.
Integers are whole numbers.
They can be both negative and positive.
Number and integer mean the same thing.
5 is a positive number -5 is a negative number. 5 and -5 are opposites.
Number Lines
-4 and 4 both equal 4 in absolute value
Absolute value is the distance from the number to 0.
Absolute value is the same for opposites.
Absolute Value
Using a number line can help make adding integers easier.
Subtracting Integers

-3-(-5)=-3+5=2
They are numbers above 0 on the number line.
Positive numbers are called counting and natural numbers.
Positive numbers can have nothing or a plus (+) sign in front of them.
If positive integers are added with positive numbers they make positive numbers.
If you subtract a positive number from a positive number you will get a positive number if the first number is greater than the second number, the difference will be negative if the second number is greater than the first number, and you will get 0 if both of the numbers are equal.
1,13,84,and 1,000,000 are all positive numbers
Negative Numbers
Negative numbers are to the left of 0 on the number line.
A negative number added with a negative number make a negative number.
A negative number subtracted from a negative number makes a positive number if the second number is greater than the first number, if the second number is less than the first number you get a negative number, and if the numbers are equal you get 0.
-2+-5=-7 -3-(-4)=1 -7-(-7)=0

Sang to tune of " Mary Had a Little Lamb"

When you’re adding integers, integer, integers,
When the signs are different, different, different,
When the signs are different you subtract.
Then the answer takes the sign, takes the sign, takes the sign,
Then the answer takes the sign of the larger number.
If you see the sign’s the same, sign’s the same, sign’s the same,
If you see the sign’s the same then you add them.
Now the answer’s sign’s the same, sign’s the same, sign’s the same,
Now the answer’s sign’s the same as the problem.

Multiplying Integers
If you multiply a positive number with a negative number you get a negative number.
If you multiply a negative number with a negative number you get a positive number.
If you multiply a positive number with a positive number you get a positive number.
If the positive is greater this applies
If the negative number is greater this applies.
Dividing Integers
If both of the number are negative the answer will be positive.
If both of the numbers are positive the answer will be positive.
If one number is negative and the other is positive the quotient will be negative.
If the the first integer is positive and greater than the second integer and the second number is also positive than the difference will be positive.
If the first number is positive but, is less than the second number that is also positive than the answer will be negative.
If the first integer is negative and the second integer is negative then the answer will be positive if the first number is greater than the second number and the difference will be negative if the second number is less than the first number.
If the first number is positive and the second number is negative then the difference will be negative if the positive number is less than the negative number's opposite , the difference will be positive if the positive number is greater than the negative number's opposite, and the difference will be 0 if the positive number is equal to the negative number's opposite.
If you add two positive numbers then the sum will be positive.
The sum will be negative if both integers are negative.
If one number is negative and one number is positive then the sum will be negative if the negative number's opposite is less than the positive number and the sum will be positive if the negative number's opposite is less than the positive number.
