Abusive Relationships Signs of an Abusive relationship: Controlling
A need to know where you are at all times
isolating you from your family
Demands you always answer text and emails (and maybe right away)
Veiled or not so veiled threats
Easily jealous and very possesive
Violent, looses temper quickly
Pressures you sexually
Abuses drugs or alcohol
says you are responsibly for their emotional state
Blames you when they mistreat you
Shames, humiliates or embarasses you
you have trouble ending relationship emotional and physical effects Low self esteem
no sense of options
no power of choice
clinical depression
chemical dependency
suicidal thoughts or attempts
clings to abuser with thoughts that it is all they deserve What to do about an abusive relationship Sustained therapy once out of-
group therapy best to face denial
if abuser is unwilling to change then the abused needs to find a way out but it is VERY difficult
learning to protect and care for yourself Statistics:
75% percent of WOMEN killed by their abusers are killed after they leave the relationship
In the world 1/3 women has been beaten, coerced into sex, or otherwise abused during her life
as many as 324,000 women experience intimate partner violence during pregnancy
on average more than 3 women are murdered by their husbands or boyfriends in this country everyday
domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women between the ages of 15 and 44 in the USA
pregnant and recently pregnant women are more likely to die of homicide thana anyother cause
aproximately 1/5 female high school students report being physically and/or sexually abused by a dating partner
76% of women who reported being raped or physically assaulted since age 18 say a current or former husband coinhabiting partner or boyfriend comitted the crime clues that indicate that a teen is in a violent relationship:
physical signs of injury
truancy, dropping out of school
failing grades
changes in mood or personality
use of drugs or alcohol
emotional outbursts
isolation ...its what they all think... THE CYCLE
