List number one NCLB – No Child Left Behind: all states should have a specialized test that will assess students in every grade level. ABCTE - American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence: provides professionals an opportunity to change careers and become NBPTS – National Board for Professional Teaching Standards: developing professional standards for accomplished teaching, creating a voluntary system to certify teachers who meet those standards and integrating certified teachers into educational reform efforts HQ – Highly Qualified: Qualified to teach the subject you are teaching FTCE – Florida Teacher Certification Examinations: requires that teachers demonstrate mastery of basic skills, professional knowledge, and content area of specialization FELE – Florida Educational Leadership Examination: Educational Leadership candidates seeking certification in Educational Leadership in the state of Florida are required to take the Florida Educational Leadership Examination FEAP’s – Florida Educator’s Accomplished Practices: specifies what teachers should know at each level of their teaching career PEC – Parents Educating Children: support and encourage its member parents who are engaged in a home education program, as well as those considering homeschooling as an academic option EPI – Educator Preparation Institute: provide an alternate route to teacher certification for mid-career professionals and college graduates who were not education majors ITP – Individual Transition Plan: transition plan is the section of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) that outlines transition goals and services for the student DACP – District Alternative Certification Programs (allows teachers to get their certification through a different route) DOE – Department of Education (federal department dealing with education) FLDOE – Florida Department of Education (governs florida’s education along with salary and testing) ESOL – English for Speakers of Other languages (class for students who are currently learning English) Content Integration – combining two or more content areas
