Rewards & Consequences
Our class uses Class DOJO as the class management program. All students start off with a green point during times where extra attention to procedures is needed.
1st reminder - verbal warning
2nd reminder - loose green point
3rd reminder - receive a red point
3 red points in one day = OOPS card
Differences this year
Students have noticed (and probably talk about) some major differences in 2nd grade:
Working in partners/teams
Increase in writing
Work with Sra. Bennett
We will not have set HW this year!
Students will only go home with HW if they have not used their time wisely in class (this does not mean if they needed help from a teacher)
Parents will be notified by email or phone call if their child is sent home with HW to be completed.

Seat expectations for group work:

if I have a question, ask my partner/group then my teacher

General Resources of activities you can do will be sent home (via Newsletter) in the near future. These are just ideas, in case you having a hard time coming up with something on your own.
Spelling Words are included on the Newsletter, so you can have students practice them at home
Reading is looked at as an activity that students should be encouraged to do on a daily basis. Reading A-Z is one way to encourage this.
Student of the Week
When students are caught following procedures throughout the day, they may be awarded an Eagle card. The student writes their name on it and it goes into a bucket where one boy and one girl is randomly chosen at the end of the week as student of the week for the following week. Students have a poster to complete about their favorite things and may bring one item to talk to the class about.
On your child's desk you will find your login information for Class DOJO. You may use it to monitor how your child is doing and they can make modifications to their monster avatar.
*Please be aware that I check my email more often than I do the messaging option in class DOJO. Email is the best way to reach me, if you have any questions or concerns about how your child is doing.
Because our 2nd graders are just kids and cannot be perfect 100% of the time, they may loose 3 points and still be eligible for Treasure Box. There are no differences in choices between those who receive all or most of the points. They either get treasure box or they don't.

The LOD will validate both languages and will be followed throughout the school during Humanities, Lunch, Recess, signage, etc. LOD will also be supported in the morning announcements Read-Alouds, DEAR times, etc.
Spanish: Monday, Wednesday, Friday
English: Tuesday, Thursday
