photo credit Nasa / Goddard Space Flight Center / Reto Stöckli By Madison Burhans Tahitian Myth Creation Taaroa:

The Great God Taaroa
creates
the
universe It is said that Taaroa lived in an eggshell for a long time and finally broke out of it and held it up to make the dome-sky, Rumia. Values The people of Tahiti valued the idea that the universe was created out of one superior god who then created every one else.

Women were good as
they brought life to humans.
Men were seen as bad and brought death.

Archetypes My Response I believe that this is a creative way of thinking that the universe was created from one god.
- he creates everything from himself.
I don't think that this was how the universe came about.
My Questions
What kind of a creature is Taaroa?
Where did Taaroa's egg come from?
My sources http://books.google.com/books?id=9I62BcuPxfYC&pg=PA251&lpg=PA251&dq=tahitian+creation+myth&source=bl&ots=4WPwRli2gP&sig=x4N0VBuzJx1a14Mm7S35gGN18Vc&hl=en&sa=X&ei=04h8UJD_Da-z0QHg-oGwBA&ved=0CCYQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=tahitian%20creation%20myth&f=false The people of Tahiti believed in a
polytheistic system where Taaroa is the
supreme god of creation. Taaroa existed in the darkness of space
before there was earth, sky, or mankind. Out of himself he made the world.
His spine was used to make the mountain range.
His ribs became hillsides.
His fingernails became shells and scales.
His feathers became the trees and plants.

However, he kept his head to himself. Taaroa also
made the people
and other gods. Just as Taaroa had a shell, so does everything else.

The sky is a shell, the earth is a shell for everything that lives on it, and the women is the shell for human beings because we are all born of woman. He created the first man, Ti'i, and the first woman, Hina.
**Hierarchy**
Women were over men. **His body parts are symbols/ represent the different parts needed to create earth and manakind.** The mother archetype - women are seen as the "shell of life"
The original man archetype - Taaroa was the first 'thing' and from him he created everything else.
