Transcript of Macbeth Act 1 Timeline

End of Act 1
Start of Act 1
Act 1 scene 1-

Three old witches appear and make plans to meet with Macbeth again after the battle.

Act 1 scene 2-

The Thane of Cawdor was defeated, Duncan declares that the Thane of Cawdor be put to death and that Macbeth, the hero of the victorious army, be given Cawdor’s title.

Act 1 sc 3-

The three witches come back and welcome Macbeth as the Thane of Glamis and Cawdor, leaving Macbeth very confused as he had not heard of Duncans decision.

Act 1 scene 4-

Macbeth is thrilled with his new title but notes to himself that Malcolm now stands between him and the crown.

Act 1 scene 5-

Lady Macbeth decided to convince her husband to do whatever is required to seize the crown. Lady Macbeth then proceeds to tell Macbeth that the king will never see tomorrow.

Continuation.. Scene 3
Ross and Angus tell Macbeth he is now the Thane of Cawdor. Macbeth cannot decide if he will get handed the crown or if he will have to fight for it.


Macbeth is unsure of lady Macbeth's plan and decides to think about it before he makes any irrational decisions.
Act 1 scene 6-

Macbeth decides to not kill the king as there is no valid reason to murder him

Act 1 scene 7-
Lady Macbeth is appalled by his decision and questions his manhood, in the end Macbeth follows through with the original plan to murder the king

Duncan, the Scottish lords, and their attendants arrive at Macbeths for an arranged dinner
