Salt and Sugar Crystals
Problem Statement
Hypothesis
Conclusion
What was learned from this project was that crystals need salt, sugar, water, and time to grow. If they don't get these things they will not grow and the water will rot.
Introduction
The purpose of this project is to observe the growth and formation of salt and sugar crystals. For crystals to grow they need salt, sugar, water, and time to grow. If they have these things they will grow beautifully and exclaim The Creator as God created crystals too.
How long will it take for a salt and sugar crystals to grow?
It will take 2-3 weeks for the salt and sugar crystals to grow the full length.
Bible Verse
A Bible Verse that relates to this projects is Job 28:17. It says; Neither gold nor crystals can compare with it, nor can it be for jewels of gold. It is talking about how wisdom is more precious that gold, and crystals. This bible verse relates to this science fair project because the bible verse is talking about how gold, crystals, and jewels of gold can't compare to the value of wisdom. Since, to do this project you need to have wisdom to know what to do, and this project is about crystals.
Materials
- salt and sugar
- 2 jars
- spoons
- measuring cups
- 2 strings
- scissors
- 4 toothpicks
Procedures
1. Fill the jars with water
2. Add about half a cup of salt or sugar to the water
3. Mix the solutions with a spoon
4. Cut a piece of string with scissors and tie each end to a toothpick
5. Place the string over the top of the jars so that the string dangles into the middle of the solutions and the toothpicks hang over the edge
6. Clean up when you've finished
The outcome of the experiment was different from the prediction. It will take 2-3 weeks for the salt and sugar crystals to grow the full length. The crystal project turned out different from the hypothesis because the salt grew within the first week and the sugar didn't grow until the 12 week. The variable that could be changed would be to add more sugar to the solution in the jar so the sugar crystals will grow faster.
