Transcript of Abortion

What is Abortion?
Abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often preformed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy.
Abortion is a huge issue in the United States because some people are for abortion and some people are against it.
The final solution to this problem:
Before the mother is allowed to have an abortion, there should be a required sonogram to show her what exactly will be happening, and from there she can decide on whether or not to have the abortion.
The second solution to this problem:
Approximately 34% of teenagers have abortions.
Schools can provide free birth control pills to lower this percent. By doing this, teens will be less likely to become pregnant in the first place, thus lowering the abortion rate.
The first solution to this problem:
If a mother decides she can not take care of her child for any reason, she can look into adoption. This would not be killing the child, and the mother can know her child is well taken care of although she will not be raising the child herself.
People that are for abortion argue:
That abortion should be an option for people that may not be ready for a child.
People against abortion argue:
That abortion should be illegal because it is killing a human.
People that are pro abortion believe that it is the woman's right to choose to have an abortion or not. Reasons to have an abortion could be:
rape- (if the woman is raped and becomes pregnant)
financial issues-(if the mother or family does not have enough money to maintain a child
age-(if the mother is young and not prepared to have a child)
handicap-(if the child or the mother is handicap)
crime-( if the mother truly does not want her child she has the option of abortion, rather than just leaving her child out in the street)
People that are Pro-Life believe that abortions inflict suffering on the unborn innocent child, and the child has a right to life.
Reasons to be against abortion could be:
Pain-(that the child can feel pain during the Abortion)
Defying God-(having an abortion is going against one of the 10 commandments)
Defying the right to life-(having an abortion goes against the Founding Fathers' right to life)
Adoption-(if the mother truly doesn't want her child, there is the option of Adoption)
Breast Cancer-(abortions increase the risk of breast cancer
Medical and Surgical Abortions
Medical: A combination of medications end the pregnancy and cause the uterus lining to shed
Surgical: The doctor uses suction to empty the uterus
A medical abortion is a type of non surgical abortion in which pharmeceutical drugs are used to induce abortion. The abortion pill is used in this type of abortion. The Abortion pill is one of the first steps to having a medical abortion. After about 3-4 weeks, the abortion is complete.
Nationwide, the cost ranges from $300-$800
The cost may vary depending on additional exams, tests, or visits
Insurance may also help lower the cost.
If the mother is under 18, some states require parent consent to have an abortion. After the age of 18 is reached, parent consent is no longer needed.
These are the states that require parent consent.
New Mexico does not require parent consent
8% of women who have had abortions have never used a method of birth control.
Surgical abortion is when a doctor sucks the baby out of the uterus. If the mother is less than 12 weeks pregnant, the operation should take about 3 hours. If the mother is 12-14 weeks pregnant, the operation should take about 5 or 6 hours.
For surgical Abortion, prices vary depending on how long the mother was pregnant.
This is an estimated amount:
6-12 weeks- $550
13-14 weeks- $650
15-16 weeks- $800
17-18 weeks- $1125
21-22 weeks- $2000
How often does abortion occur each year?
