Differentiation demands that we break the tasks down Writing is difficult But what are the steps on the ladder? We need to provide a ladder We know about breaking the task down in to chunks but what else is there? What strategies to use? Help sheets
Writing frames
Grading exemplar work
Sharing assessment criteria and grade descriptors Frames, sheets etc. If we can master this then we help students get to this high order skill - the top of the ladder Successful writing Look at the many examples of writing frames, help sheets etc:
Discard any that would not help student writing in your subject
Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of those you keep from a student and a teacher point of view
Discuss the strategies you already use and how they could be improved
Write a teaching team action plan to share out development work and piloting Task: What strategies get them there?
