Old Workplace Learn by rote Learning is hierarchical (Teacher to Student) Training is 'formal' New Workplace Creative Open Collaborative Learning can be peer to peer Apply instead of regurgitate Learning can be informal Relies on butts in seats I'm formal. Not spontaneous.

Just in time & learning can be situational and or unstructured This new species of learner requires leveraging social networks, collaboration, and new technologies. "Training" 10/07/2011 Stop pushing mostly all-purpose formal learning in the workplace Teach project based learning Make all content ready for learning purposes: support any “learner” or “teacher” Allow spaces for experimentation where risk taking & failure is OK Encourages and designs for Informal learning Learning is collaborative & “social” Leverages technology Value of learning is baked into the culture http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=50138922n Automation is in our future CBS 60 minutes Future of Learning Natalie
