Lapbooks and Dioramas
are
fantastic

creative
educational tools in foreign language learning.
WHAT IS A DIORAMA???
A Diorama is a three-dimensional
model
of a landscape, event, space, scene or room which is constructed in a
cardboard box
(usually a shoebox) using natural materials (stones, plants, bark, sand, etc) and plastic or clay models.

LAPBOOKS AND DIORAMAS
Why use them?
LAPBOOKS & DIORAMAS
Young children and sometimes older ones feel
intimidated
or
bored
when faced with a big blank sheet of paper.
But

what if the piece of paper is small,
colourful
and has an
interesting shape
? This changes everything.
And if there are
pictures
to accompany the writing?... Well, that makes all the difference in their attitude! It also
opens up their imagination and creativity.
SO...WHAT IS A LAPBOOK?
It is a simple, inexpensive
file folder
filled with
foldables
and expandable
mini-books
which are multi-dimensional graphic organisers that create a sense of
mystery and adventure.

How to make a diorama
Learners of
all

ages, levels and learning styles
enjoy making them.
They help to create
intrinsic motivation
and
a sense of accomplishment
and as a result all learners become more cooperative in class.
There is
no right or wrong way
to make them.
They can be as
simple
or as
detailed
as you wish them to be.
Assessment
use rubrics

Weather
,
sports
,
environment
,
animals
,
nutrition
,
countries
…the list is endless.
You can even have
literature
lapbooks or
biography
lapbooks for highschool learners.
even a grammar lapbook!

They are
FUN
&
INTERESTING
and make
great keepsakes
Students
love the process
of making them as they combine
scrapbooking
with learning
They help children of
any learning style and any age
become
independent
learners
They are
interactive
which helps children learn remarkably well from them and allow both teachers and students to be
creative
They may be as
simple or as elaborate
as you want
And they add an element of
mystery and/or adventure
for the younger children
They may be used with
any subject, theme, or book
as a
review
and
evaluation
tool or as
learning portfolios
Students
organize & display
what they are learning
and realize that what they are learning is
important and worthwhile
Students are
proud
of their work and like to share with family and friends
Students can see their
progress
through a study that
Integrates
multiple subject areas
The visual,
kinaesthetic
nature of lapbooks helps dyslexic young people to be involved and to learn.
BUT what is most important is that they help children develop
qualities and skills
that cannot be measured by tests
