Phases of the Moon New Moon Waxing Crescent 1st Quarter The moon is 90 degrees east from the sun Waxing Gibbous Waning Gibbous Waxing means getting bigger Full Moon Waning means to decrease gradually in size. Last Quarter Waning Crescent The Moon The Moon takes about 27 days (27 days, 7 hours, 43 minutes, 11.6 seconds) to go all the way around the Earth and return to its starting position. Selene was the Titan Goddess of the moon. Although there are different goddesses associated with the moon like Artemis, Selene was linked with the moon in old greek poets. The moon is 4.5 billion years old. Water molecules were found on the moon in September 2009.
