The Interior Plains Region
Transcript of The Interior Plains Region
Many of the Polish settlers became farmers, miners, and loggers.
Many Russian settlers became Doukhobors.
The first Germans to arrive were called Mennonites. Has Farming And Ranching Changed In The Interior Plains Region? Agriculture is very important in the Interior Plains Region because it has large areas of flat land and fertile soil. Fun Fact Farming Then: Farming was hard work because all they could use was horses and plows. Settlers everywhere in the region owned farms and grew animals and crops for their way of life. The fur trading forts held the first gardens. Farming Now: Where there is little rain farmers now use irrigation. Where as back then they depended on rain and lakes to water crops. We no longer use horses we now use combines and tractors. We use chemicals to prevent insect damage and to fertilize crops. In Case You're Wondering...... Irrigation is when water is sent to dry land through pipes in the ground. Bibliography In Case You're Wondering.... A Mennonite is a religious group that believe in simplicity.
A Doukhobor is a religious group that believe in peace and hard work. Caribou In Case You're Wondering.... A group of police or soldiers that ride on horses is called a cavalry. Northwest Mounted Police contd. The new police force soon became known "the Mounties" or North West Mounted Police (NWMP).
The presence of the Mounties made the people in the Interior Plains Region feel safer. In the very olden days only the men wanted to be Mounties because back then the people of the region had different ideas of how the men and women should live and work. Fun Facts The NWMP trained in Fort Dufferin, Manitoba.

By:Emma Cey 5A How Did The RailwayAffect The People Of The Interior Plains Region? The Canadian Pacific Railway began to be built in 1881. The railway changed the lives of the First Nations and the Metis that lived in the Interior Plains. They basially had to hunt a new main food source. The only reason that they needed to hunt a new food source was because the buffalo in the area were almolst all gone! Because no one could stop the bison from going on the tracks the railway companies encouraged people to shoot the bison. Infact in the late 1800's hundreds of thousands of bison were killed. Think of if you were a First Nations person and you depended on bison for your way of life and suddenly almost all of them just disapeared. This caused ALOT of of hardship between the settlers First Nations, and the Metis. This is'nt good! This is a picture of the Canadian Pacific Railway Thanks for watching!
