NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION
Transcript of NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION
IMPACT ON OUR MODERN WORLD
EFFECTS OF THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION
This presentation explores the negative effects of the Industrial Revolution.
We acknowledge that during this period of time many positive changes occurred.
But today we are focusing on the negatives and how they have influenced, and shaped our world into the place that it is today.
OF THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION
The Industrial Revolution had a profound effect on the growth of population
Many people began moving from farms and towns, as they were attracted to the new, modern cities.
The sudden influx of people immigrating caused overcrowded cities, and many slum areas began to appear
The Industrial Revolution essentially caused many people to live a life of poverty
In such a rapidly changing nation, many people found themselves made redundant, as machines had taken the place of their human labour.
This resulted in a high unemployment rate.
Many people were forced to commit crime just to support their families.
HIGH UNEMPLOYMENT RATE
The forests that helped emit oxygen and keep the air healthy were cut down during the Industrial revolution.
The factories not only caused air pollution, but also affected the water and
Carbon and pollution emissions had caused global warming.
Global warming causes higher seas levels and possible extinction for some animal species.
The life expectancy rate dropped also dropped during the industrial revolution.
Water sources that people drank from were contaminated
Cholera, tuberculosis, typhus, typhoid and influenza were among some of the most popular diseases
Doctors had used techniques from the Middle Ages, like mixing poisons such as mercury, arsenic and iron, which also contributed to the death toll.
Another negative result of industrialization is that it brought a negative impact on culture, values and morality of mankind
People started focusing less on God during this time, and the need for God didn’t seem so strong anymore.
Technology derived a shift in principles, beliefs and faith.
Children in factories worked terribly long hours and earned minimal wages.
They were beaten if they worked too slow or were late.
It was quite common for the children to become weak and sick because of such awful working conditions.
The Children were often seen working with dangerous machinery, since they were small enough to fit between the tightly packed machinery (this placed them in great danger.)
Woman also worked in hazardous conditions, which led to deformity of the chest and ribs, and therefore put them at risk of becoming crippled or developing a disease.
The Industrial Revolution has had enormous impact on history and how our world is in modern day society.
people more reliant on technology/machines
increase in patients diagonesed with heat disease and diabetes
more fast-food consumed, less exersice due to less physical manual labour
increase in patients diagnosed with heart disease and diabetes
environmental - mass deforestation, mining etc. with machinery
And finally to summarise this presentation, we have discussed the outcomes of...
high crime rates
after effects on the modern world
development of diseases
We believe that the impacts caused by the industrial revolution were negative and a dramatic change to the world that we used to know.
