Transcript of CALIFORNIA

California is the third largest state in the U.S. It borders Oregon, Nevada, Arizona, and
Mexico. It's coast-line borders the Pacific
Ocean and is 840 miles long.

California has a variety of climates and terrains. In the North the temperatures can be similar to MN & they have mountains for skiing. The South is very hot and has deserts.

The highest and lowest points in the continental United States are within 100 miles of one another and reside within California's borders. Mount Whitney measures 14,495 feet and Bad Water in Death Valley is 282 feet below sea level.
California has the leading income in agriculture for all of the United States. Products include milk, grapes, almonds, cattle, strawberries, lettuce & tomatoes.

California relies on tourism to bring in money. Did you know that every year, about 6.5 million people visit California!? That's a lot!!!

Because of the population, CA uses a lot of energy. Due to
climate and legislation, they use alternative energy such as
solar & wind to reduce strain on the power grid.

Technology is also a major part of the economy in California.
Did you know that GoPro, Tesla, Apple, and Google are all
technology companies that are based in California?

Tesla is a totally electric car. Tesla Motors was
created in 2003 by engineers in Silicon Valley.

If California were a country it would be the 11th richest country
in the world.

California produces over 17 million gallons of wine each year.

The Rose Parade originally started on January 1st 1890 and has been going on since; that's almost 125 years!!! The Rose Parade has floats that take up to a year to make and are completely made out of organic material! The parade precedes the Rose Bowl.

The state motto is Eureka!, in Greek it means "I have found it".

In 1848, James W. Marshall and John
Sutter were making a saw mill
(Sutters mill) and came across little
flakes of gold. When news came out,
prospectors traveled from around the world in search of fortune. Approximately one half of them came from the U.S. while others came from abroad.
