Transcript of Ancient China Project

Why did they make the terracotta warriors and what was the point of it if they were just statues? What are some inventions that were made in Ancient China? Where was Ancient China? What was life like
for children who were born
in Ancient China? Before children were born the mother's parents would send her flowers, food, sweets and other small gifts for the baby.

If a boy was born, he was given a piece of jade (a sometimes green ornamental stone for carving, jewellery etc.) and a bow was hung outside the family doorway.

If a girl was born she was given a curved roof tile and a handkerchief was hung at the family doorway. What would people wear in Ancient China? Peasants:
The poor people of Ancient China (Commonly known as peasants) wore clothes made out of hemp. Hemp is a rough material made from plant fibres; this material was good for peasants as they had to work in fields for long hours most days of the year. Generally clothes that were made of hemp were baggy pants and shirts. Before Qin Shi Huangdi (the first emperor of the Qin Dynasty serving from 246 to 210 BC) died he said that he wanted the same military power and royal status in the afterlife as he had in his earthly lifetime. Such an accomplishment would be very difficult to achieve in his next life without a proper army so that is why he has 10,000 clay soldiers with weapons, horses and chariots. People of higher classes (Richer people who didn't struggle with money e.g. emperors & people of government) wore silk. Silk is made from the cocoons of silkworms and is very, soft, light and beautiful. The Chinese were the first to make silk and kept how to make it a very big secret for HUNDREDS of years. Silk can be dyed specific colours or with fancy designs, silk garments were usually long robes.
