We aim to bring the benefits of the internet to all FCHO customers
Oldham Online
The technology is drastically is changing the way we live and work and it has the potential to transform the lives of unemployed, disadvantaged and socially isolated people.
As information and communication technology becomes more commonplace, competence with computers and familiarity with online services are necessary in order to participate in modern life. However large sections of the community are still unable to access digital technology in the privacy of their homes because they cannot afford the cost of a computer or internet access.
In the 21st century, digital inclusion is a vital means of achieving social inclusion.
Digital inclusion will help determine how people learn, work and play, how they interact with society

One Point
For many of us access to Technology
is an accepted part of everyday life.

Nearly all working adults have access to
the internet, and in many respects this
represents freedom to access any information such as lifestyle, financial, health and well-being and employment opportunities.
This is the experience of many adults who lack the necessary resources, skills or confidence.

Social housing customers demonstrate many of the characteristics associated with those who are most likely to be digitally excluded.
This is known as the "Digital Divide"
Can you imagine life without access
to technology and the internet?
What are the digital challenges for Social Housing Providers?
We are investigating possibilities of Wifi in two key areas

Oldham's digital inclusion score is low. 13% of Oldham's communities are deeply digitally & socially excluded. This is almost three times the national average.

Broadband coverage in the rural east of the borough is poor
The highest concentrations of digital exclusion occur in the following areas: Failsworth West, Coldhurst, Hollinwood and Medlock Vale.
