Transcript of What is Three Kings Day?

Three Kings Day (Epiphany) takes place on January 6th.
Holiday for the children where the Three Wise Men bring them gifts like they brought Baby Jesus.
Very similar to Christmas in religious meaning but different in the gifts given.
Traditions of children: Rosca de Reyes, parade, shoes, etc.
Three Kings Day vs. Christmas
Three Kings Day consists of smaller presents while, Christmas is the time to get big gifts.
They celebrate both as the beginning of Christ.
Christmas is on December 25th (like in America) but Three Kings Day is on January 6th.
Traditions of the Children on Three Kings Day
The children write letters to the Three Kings before they come, requesting a small gift or toy.
Also, they leave a bit of straw or hay in their shoes for the animals to eat when they come.
Many parades of The Three Kings take place in big cities.
The most iconic tradition is making a Rosca de Reyes (King's Ring). It is a sweet bread shaped like a wreath, and it has a figurine shaped like Jesus baked inside. Once the cake is cut, whoever has the piece with the figurine has good luck for the rest of the year.
Story of the Three Kings
The Three Kings are known as the Three Wise Men.
The story says, that when Jesus was born the Three Wise Men had to travel there to bring him gifts.
Their journey took them 12 days, that is why Three Kings Day is 12 days (Jan. 6) after Christmas (the birth of Christ).
What is Three Kings Day?
Three Kings Day is the celebration of the Three Wise Men bringing gifts to Baby Jesus.
It is also called Epiphany, and it is a major holiday in Spanish culture.
On the night of January 5th, the children leave out their shoes on the porch for the "Three Kings" to come by and put presents in the childrens' shoes.
If the children are bad, the Kings will not come, and if they are awake, the Kings will pass by as well.
