The Outsiders Playlist
Transcript of The Outsiders Playlist
For the third chapter, I chose "Demons" by Imagine Dragons. I chose this song because when Darry slapped Ponyboy, he let out all of his anger and evil words and directed them to Pony which made him very upset, causing him to leave him. Darry let all of the demons inside of him come out and he showed a different side of Darrel Curtis.
For the seventh chapter, I chose the song "Hero" by Nickleback. I chose this song because Johnny and Ponyboy showed characteristics of being heroes when they risked their lives to go into the burning church to save the children from being burned to death.
For the ninth chapter, I chose the song "Stay Gold" by Stevie Wonder. I chose this song because of it's title, it goes perfectly because this was the chapter that Johnny told Ponyboy to stay gold and then died. Staying gold means to stay young, caring and green, which Ponyboy always has been.
For the eleventh chapter, I chose the song "Nothing Lasts Forever" by Maroon 5. I chose this song because as the book is concluding, Ponyboy discovers that nothing lasts forever, like the people he loves in his life, the mistakes he has made, and the grades he is able to achieve.
For the first chapter, I chose "The Other Side" by Bruno Mars. I chose this song because their neighborhood is made up by two types of people, the Greasers and the Socs.

For the second chapter, I chose "Firework" by Katy Perry. I chose this song because when Ponyboy first met Cherry Valance, they hit it off and ended up having a lot in common. He got fireworks in his stomach when he talked to her and when he realized that she had a boyfriend that would beat him up if he found him talking to her.
For the fourth chapter, I chose "Secrets" by OneRepublic. I chose this song because in this chapter, Johnny and Ponyboy run away from home because of the murder and decide to leave to Windrixville without telling anyone else besides Dally who helps them escape.
For the fifth chapter, I chose the song "Dear God" by Avenged Sevenfold. I chose this song because the lyrics relate very well to what's happening in the chapter. It discusses how Ponyboy and Johnny are very lonely with no one to talk to other than themselves and how they are miles away from the ones they love.
For the sixth chapter, I chose the song "Burn" by Elie Goulding. I chose this song because in this chapter, the abandoned church that they were living in catches on fire and burns into flames.
For the eighth chapter, I chose the song "The Eye Of The Tiger" by Survivor. I chose this song because their gang knew that the rumble was approaching and this song shows elements of defeat, which is what they were tying to do.
For the tenth chapter, I chose the song "Your Guardian Angel" by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. I chose this song because in this chapter, the death of johnny and Dally were the main topics and their deaths were very hard on all of the boys. Although they knew that Johnny and Dally would be watching over them in heaven and acting as their guardian angels, they were going to dearly miss their two best friends.
Song For The Whole Book
For the twelfth and final chapter, I chose the song "Safe and Sound" by Capital Cities. I chose this song because usually there is always a happy ending to a book, which there was in The Outsiders. The three brothers and the other members of their gang were safe and sound in their houses and in heaven.
For the song that represents the entire book,I chose the song "Mean" by Taylor Swift because essentially the whole book is based on the two different sides of life and how the Socs wouldn't accept the Greasers in their community.
