Many homeless women are victims of domestic or sexual abuse.
Homeless children have high rates of emotional and behavioral problems, often from having witnessed abuse.
Volunteering is at your local church
Giving is another great way to help. Many shelters and soup kitchens also welcome contributions of food, clothing and other supplies.
One of the best ways to help a homeless person is to show them respect.
Drug Abuse
The median age is 36, and 35 percent are involved in drug and/or alcohol abuse.
According to the agency, approximately two-thirds of our homeless have been previously institutionalized in jails, prisons, alcohol or drug detox and treatment centers, etc.
Mental health problems
Substance abuse problems
Bronchitis and pneumonia
Problems caused by being outdoors
Wound and skin infections
The nation’s homeless population decreased by 0.4%, or about 2,325 people. At a point in time in January 2012, 633,782 people were experiencing homelessness. There was a decrease in all homeless sub populations with the exception of persons in families.
