: This technique is used in this photo for the outline of the grass, the body of the trees and the outline on the top of the trees. It is also used for the outline of the shadows of the trees.
Rule of thirds
: This technique is used in this photo to show the three clear separated sections of the ground, the trees and the sky. It is easily visible that the sky is the first third on the top, the trees are the second third in the middle, and the ground is the last third on the bottom.

This technique is used in this photo to frame the Parliamentary Triangle and Lake Burley Griffin. The frame is created by the long branches of the trees and bushes on Mount Ainslie.

This technique is used in the photo for the row of trees parallel from the pool of reflection leading towards the main building of the War Memorial, the two walls in front of the wall of poppies, both also leading to the main building of the War Memorial.
Framing the subject:
This technique is used in the photo to frame the main War Memorial building. The frame is created by the two walls in front of the wall of poppies and the steps leading to the inside of the building.
Foreground, middle & background:
This technique is used in the photo with the bar of the balcony up close to the camera (just a small portion is shown), the row of trees next to the pool of reflection and the building of the War Memorial furthest away. The bar of the balcony is the foreground, the trees are the middle ground and the building furthest away is the background.

This technique is used in the photo to create the scene of the sky. The sky is the main feature because it takes up most the space of the photo with the clouds. The wing of the plane only takes a small portion in the bottom.

This technique is used in the photo to show the three clear separations of the plane wing, the clouds and the actual blue sky. The first third is the plane wing at the very bottom, the second third are the clouds in the middle, and the last third is the blue sky at the very top.
