"On September 11, 2001 the United States suffered the deadliest attacks on it's soil in the country's history. The attacks, perpetrated by 19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda, involved a series of airline hijackings and suicide attacks against targets in New York City and Washington D.C. The attacks caused extensive death and destruction and triggered an enormous U.S. effort to combat terrorism."

What is the Department of Homeland Security?
Before 9/11 22 important agencies existed, but the agencies did not work together to ensure that the United States was resilient.
To ensure the resilience of the U.S. several agencies combined to create the DHS
