Main purpose is to stop online piracy
They ban websites that are pirated
e.g. They banned Megavideo in Jan. 2012 SOPA & PIPA Global Post has an article on SOPA
U.S. legislation group
Won the right to ban any website that supports or displays any sort of piracy
Could be a download link or any sort of reproduction of the original work
Protects intellectual property online
