What is Peer Tutoring?
Who will be interviewing you
Today you will be meeting with Tina Brajic who oversees the Writing & Math Learning Centres.
Tina has been involved with the Peer Tutor Program at Mohawk College for over ten years, with experience in Student Services since 2005.
Day in the life of a
Writing Centre Peer Tutor...
Decide your tutoring schedule based around your timetable...which days and times you would like to work, and how many hours (up to a maximum of 15).
Your schedule is posted online where students log in and book appointments
THE WRITING CENTRE
Writing Centre Peer Tutors help with Communications course content, written & verbal communication skills, writing consultations & activities, and offer weekly ESL Conversation Clubs.
Writing Centre Peer Tutors are available at all campuses
Provides drop-in math assistance for most math courses.
The MLC is available at Fennell and Stoney Creek campuses.
Peer-Assisted Study Sessions (P.A.S.S) provide weekly peer-led group study sessions to help students in targeted first-year Math and Communications courses.
The P.A.S.S. Program is available at the Fennell Campus only
Upper semester students provide assistance with course content in a one-to-one, drop-in, or group setting.
Peer Tutoring is available at all campuses.
Peer Tutors are upper semester students, who have successfully completed the Communications course. The main services provided by the Writing Centre tutors are:
Reading, speaking and listening assistance
GOAL OF A WRITING CENTRE PEER TUTOR
Promote independence in learning
Personalize instruction, share tips and good study skills habits
Respect individual differences
Help guide students to other helpful college services and resources
Writing Centre Tutors are expected to be in during their regularly scheduled hours
Students book online appointments
Tutors meet their tutees at the Writing Centre at their campus
ALL tutoring is done at the Writing Centre
Hours will be consistent every week
How Appointment Bookings Work...
About your interview
You will be asked some informal questions to help us get to know you better and to assess your fit for this position.
You'll also be asked scenario based questions related to the Writing Centre Tutor role, to assess your problem solving skills.
Lastly, you'll have an opportunity to ask any questions that you still may have.
