Government
- the group of people who control and make decisions for a country, state
- controlling body whose power exists only within pre-defined limits that are established by a constitution or other source of authority
Types of Government
the type of government could be identified by knowing the number of rulers
ONE ruler - MONARCHY
FEW rulers - ARISTOCRACY
MANY rulers - DEMOCRACY
Forms of Government
each country chooses the form of government that suits their needs, source of authority/ power
DICTATORSHIP
MONARCHY
a form of government ruled by a king or a queen
Absolute Monarchy
all powers are vested upon the monarch
Limited/Constitutional Monarchy
the Constitution limits the power of the king/queen; the monarch is only a symbolic head; real power is held by Prime Minister or the Parliament
Communism
a form of government where
all property is publicly owned and
each person works and is paid according to their abilities and needs

Ex. China and North Korea
Democracy
a form of government ruled by the people; freedom to express their opinions and run for government positions; election
Functions of the Government
look after the well-being of the people
protect the people against undesirable elements of society
protection of every citizen and his property
provide basic public services (housing, education, infrastructures, health services)
puts in order the relations of the people

a form of government ruled by only one person who has the absolute power to create and implement laws. he may have subordinates but he has always the final say
