WHAT ARE SUPERHEROES??? My Fine Art Book Review Information Report Bibliography My Fine Art Photos THANK YOU!!!!!! Journal Entries For my Book Review, I read "Superman For All Seasons". i also read "Daredevil: The Man Without Fear" and "Marvels" for my Independent Research Task. "Superman for all seasons" is about how Clark Kent became Superman. The book is separated into the four seasons with one person, who is part of Kent/Superman's life, narrating each season. Narrative My narrative is the origin of Captain America but slightly modified. URLs:

Superman Returns
Hancock (2008)
The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
The Amazing Spider-man (2012) My Pop Art In my Information Report, I have sub-questions that answer my main question. Some of these sub-questions are:
"Why are superheroes so popular?" and "Who are the most popular superheroes and why?" For our Journal Entries, we had to write 3-4 entries per week about how our IRT was going. I chose this question because I love superheroes and want to learn more about the topic and its history. Superheroes are very interesting to me because they are not just superheroes, they are human. Some people think that superheroes don't have real feelings and just go around being cool and saving the world but they don't. They have feelings that relate to their own alter ego problems such as family losses, money problems and being different from others. For example, Mystique from the X-Men feels that because she does not have human skin, she can never be accepted into the mutant society. This is why superheroes fascinate me so much. The fact that they can fight the bad guys and still solve their own distressing problems is why I love them so much. I have also learnt more about them in my IRT which helps me a lot. Questions??? A retelling of how Captain America came to be. Captain America is a comic superhero character created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. "There he was. The symbol of hope and peace. The symbol of victory. He was standing, leading us into the darkness. He was walking gallantly with his shield in his arm, his other arm ready for battle. I stared at him as I walked behind, amazed that he was here. After all, he was the Winter Soldier. We prepared for the fight we had been waiting for. Some said that we would win, others not so positive. It was war. It was a fight I thought we would win. It was a battle we would remember. It was darkness, but as the beacon of hope led us in, we saw a light in the darkness. It was a war America would remember."
- Prologue For my Pop Art, i got a picture of "The Avengers", went to a website and put six different effects on six of the same pictures and then put it all together on Photoshopp Fun Facts!!! I chose to do this for my Fine Arts because people only know about the major superheroes, such as Superman and Batman but not about others (mostly X-Men). for example, Rogue, Havok, Banshee and Dazzler. Dazzler (can turn sound vibrations into light and energy beams). Some of her adventures take place in discos and rock concerts so you can imagine what the scene would be like. Banshee (possesses a "sonic scream" that can cause physical vibrations and enables him to fly) Rogue (can absorb and sometimes also removes the memories, physical strength and abilities) Havok (can generate powerful "plasma blasts" ) 1st 2nd 3rd 31st of July, 2012

We've started our IRT and I'm going to do superheroes. I know that it's going to be really hard but I think it's good for us to learn how to mange our time and be responsible. I'm nervous and excited at the same time because I'm not sure if my topic will be very interesting. xo 8th of August,2012

IRT is actually really fun. I've learnt a lot of things I didn't know about superheroes and also the other minor superheroes. My Info Report is nearly finished but I've finished my Book Review. xo 10th of September, 2012
I'm really nervous about my presentation. I only have 1 week! I've made my palm cards and have been practising what to say at home. xo "There were a few men. But they weren’t like me, skinny and frail but big and muscular, looks that a few girls would fall for. Me? Nope. A few muttered something to each other, a few chuckled. I joined the line and tried to ignore the rude remarks they thought I couldn’t hear. When it was my turn, I held my breath. I could hear my heart racing, sometimes skipping a beat. I was sure I would be rejected. As I walked in, was surprised that even the Commander chuckled. He asked me what I could do. I hesitated. What should I say? I couldn’t say that I drew comics, right? It would sound boring. He went onto asking if I had done any sort of training. I had to answer at least one, right? I said no, pausing my breath. He shook his head and then finally said that that was all and asked me to leave. I sighed. I thought that I would probably be rejected." - Chapter One I knew that this was a big job and a huge responsibility. I remembered when I was just plain old Steve Rogers but now I could be the biggest thing in America. I smiled to myself as I closed the wooden door of the office. I was going to be Captain America. DC (Detective Comics) was founded in 1934 by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson Marvel was founded in 1939 by Martin Goodman and became DC Comics' rival In the first two decades of superheroes, superheroes were a portrayed as a typical white, tall young and middle-to-upper class person. But then in the late 1960's, superheroes of other racial groups began to appear such as, the Black Panther and Luke Cage. Did you know that there is a musical about Spiderman called "Spiderman: Turn off the dark"?? Fun Facts!!!! Did you know that Flash can run so fast he can travel in time? Did you know that Superman weighs 225 kilos? QUIZ!!!!!!!! 1. Who is Hulk's alter ego? Mystique Spiderman Shape-shifter Spider senses There are lots of different definitions of a superhero. Some people think a superhero is someone (or something) that has superpowers. But then Batman or Iron Man aren't classified are superheroes. Other people think a superhero is someone/thing that does their jobs as a superhero, such as putting others first and fighting for their country (or world). i personally think a superhero is someone who has the courage and bravery to fight for others and are dedicated to protecting the public. Most superheroes have extraordinary powers and abilities, a strong moral code and a sense of responsibility. For my Fine Arts, I did a superhero poster. I got 50-100 different pictures of superheroes and villains and placed them on the poster of a New York window. The window is looking out onto the buildings so I placed the different superheroes and villains in places that were appropriate. I needed a 100x140cm poster and 50-100 pictures of different superheroes and villains. Firstly, I found 50-100 pictures of different superheroes, and then I adjusted the size of the pictures so they fitted the poster correctly. The third thing I did was printed the pictures out and cut them out. The last thing I did was I pasted the pictures in places that were appropriate to the character, e.g. Iron Man flying. Native Americans were often associtaed with wild animals and Asians were often portrayed as martial artists. Superhero films started in the 1940's and was aimed at children as Saturday movie serials. Then in the early 21st century, hit films such as Spiderman (2002) and Batman Begins (2005) have led to more superhero films, some successful others not so successful. Most of the successful movies have made sequels and also reboots such as The Incredible Hulk (2008) and Superman Returns (2006). Superhero movies have been considered a very popular movie genre with the successes of The Dark Knight (2008) and The Avengers (2012). Folkloric heroes such as Robin Hood started appearing and these heroes inspired people to make radio programs and novels with mysterious heroes with distinct costumes and unusual abilities. Some of these heroes include Zorro. Characteristics of a superhero (usually) Extraordinary powers and abilities
