The Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes
Who is Arthur Conan Doyle?
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is a classical tale made by a man
named Arthur Conan Doyle. Doyle was born on the 22nd of May in the year of 1859 in Edinburgh, Scotland. He died at the age of 71 on July 7, 1930. Doyle is a world famous writer and detective and is considered one of the best writers to ever live. Doyle has also been a famous British politician and physician. Detective fiction, science fiction, historical novels and non fiction were all of the genre's Doyle has written. Doyle gets his credibility from Sherlock Holmes, but he also has a unpopular book called "The Lost World". Doyle has not just been a writer, but he has also been a football goalie for the Portsmouth Association Football Club. Doyle was also married to 2 women and fathered 5 children. Doyle was a very devoted family man and loved his two wives dearly. Since Mr.Doyle was not Christian, he considered himself as a spiritualist. Which means, he has a
very big trust in god. Sadly, Doyle lost his life in his own home at age
of 71. He died of a heart attack. His last words were
directed toward his wife: "You are wonderful." He said.
He was buried on July 11, 1930.
In the Book, Dr. Watson is the main Character. He is a married man
and is the best friend of Sherlock Holmes. Watson acts like a sidekick
to Holmes as they go on adventures together and smoke pipes.
Sometimes, Holmes is the narrator of cases. Holmes is famous for his astute logical reasoning and his use of forensic science skills to solve very difficult cases. Holmes, who first appeared in the publication in 1887 was featured in four novels and 56 short stories. His first novel
''A Study in Scarlet'', was a hit with Doyle`s second novel ''The Sign of
Four.'' Doyle went on to write many more like ''The Blanched Soldier'', ''The Speckled Band'', ''A Scandal in Bohemia'' and many more. There were also 2 books that were made in third person called the ''Mazarin Stone'' and ''His Last Bow''. These stories are still considered classics by ''The Great'' Sir Arthur Doyle.
About the Book and the Characters
Holmes and Watson share an apartment on 221 Baker Street. In every mystery or story, Holmes has a different ''client''. His clients have different problems. From murders to burglaries Holmes can solve the case!! The amazing thing with Holmes is that he can tell who the thief is with just a few clues! Not even the police team can match Holmes ability to solve mysteries!! Since Watson is a doctor, Watson mainly helps in medical problems. Watson assists like this for a long time. One case in particular, which is the case of the ''Engineer's Thumb.'' Watson helped a man by curing his thumb after an incident when working. Both enjoy living in 221B together and solving crimes all around London. After some cases, Dr. Watson gets married and starts practicing medicine again. He still helps Holmes, but starts to live with his family. Only one case has Watson done a case by himself. It is called "Watson Gets the Trick." But, Watson failed miserably and cannot do it without Holmes. And, have you ever heard the saying '' Elementary my dear Watson?''

There are 5 cases that Mr. Holmes and Watson must solve in the book. The first, called ''The Speckled Band'' is a classical tale and a well known one too. It begins with a lady that wants justice to be served after the death of her beloved sister. The second case, called ''The Red-Headed League'', is equally famous and suspenseful. It is about a man that got fired from a good job without getting notified. The third case of the book, is called ''A Scandal in Bohemia''. It is about a king about to get married but a woman wants to crash and ruin the wedding. The fourth case is called ''The Adventure Of The Blue Carbuncle''. It is about a great thief stealing an extremely valuable gem. The last case is called ''The Adventure Of The Engineer's Thumb''. It is about a very skilled engineer's thumb getting cut off badly in a huge murder attempt. The year of these stories takes in the year of 1800's.
