Cleopatra ruled as a co-regent with her one brother. Cleopatra and her brother got married and ruled Egypt together until he overruled her and took over Egypt. She ruled for about twenty years on and off, traveling to Rome and back to be with Julius Caesar.

Cleopatra was born in 69 BC. She was the last Pharaoh of Ancient Egypt. Her family had ruled Egypt for 300 years. She was part of the Ptolemy dynasty. Her father was Pharaoh Ptolemy VII and Cleopatra was his favorite child. He taught her all about how to rule the country. Cleopatra was very smart, and she could speak 7 languages, including Greek and Egyptian.

What was Cleopatra known for?
Cleopatra was known for being the last Pharaoh of Ancient Egypt. After her father died when she was 18 years old, she and her 10 year old brother took over ruling Egypt. They were supposed to rule together, but as her brother got older, he pushed her out of the palace and took over as Pharaoh. In 48 BC, Cleopatra met Julius Caesar who came from Rome. Together they defeated her brother and she took over as the main ruler of Egypt.

After Cleopatra and Julius Caesar defeated Cleopatra's brother they fell in love and they had a son named Caesarion. Julius Caesar was the ruler of Rome, and Cleopatra was the ruler of Egypt. She traveled back and forth between the 2 countries a lot. Caesar was killed in 44 BC.

Who was Marc Anthony?
In 41 BC, Cleopatra met Marc Anthony and they fell in love. He was a leader in Rome. They fought against another leader of Rome, Octavius, who was the heir to Julius Caesar. Cleopatra wanted her son, Caesarion, to be the heir. But they lost the fight and had fled back to Egypt.
After Mark Antony and Cleopatra fled back to Egypt, Mark Antony had a mission to defeat Octavius. As Mark Antony was on his way to Rome, he heard a fake rumor that Cleopatra died. So Mark Antony killed himself, but Cleopatra was still alive, so when Cleopatra heard that he was dead, she killed herself by letting a poisonous snake bite her.
