Introduction

Anatomy of TFCC

Common causes of Ulnar-sided wrist pain

TFCC injuries
LT Ligament Injuries
ECU subluxation/ tendonopathy

Ulnar side of the wrist- the black box (Sachar K, 2008)
Injuries compared to LBP (Sachar K, 2008)
TFCC- the wrist meniscus

Tang et al., 1998

Pronation-Supination & DRUJ Stability
Ulnar -sided wrist stability
Load Transmission
The TFCC is an important pulley for the ECU tendon, After release of the TFCC from its distal ulna attachment, the ECU tendon excursion increases by 30% during wrist extension. Tang (1998).

Functions of TFCC

Functions of TFCC

Palmar 1989

I-Traumatic
A-Central Tear
B-Ulnar Avulsion (+\- distal ulnar #)
C-Distal Injuries (from ulnar extrinsic lig. complex)
D- Radial Avulsion (+\- Sigmoid notch#)

Classification

Physical Therapy for TFCC and Ulnar wrist pain
Linking ICF to PT outcomes after ulnar wrist pain
Clinical prediction rule
TFCC injury with ECU subluxation

Imaging Studies

Hand therapy for TFCC injury

Can we use the ICF model to represent health outcomes?
International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF)

Can we derive potential predictors that guide clinical decision making in subjects with ulnar wrist pain?
For research Q.3 CPR

Dichotomize patients as having successful vs. non-successful outcome (50% reduction in pain, score of +4 or more on GRC)
Compare the potential variables obtained from history, P.E, Lab. Between the 2 dichotomized group (t-test for continuous variables, Chi-squared for categorical variables). P<.10 not to miss any potential variables.
Multiple regression analysis will be then performed for variables with significance difference to come up with regression model that best predict the outcome (potential variables that predict the success of physical therapy treatment).
