Objective & EQ
Ordered Pair: a pair of numbers that can be used to locate a point on a coordinate plane
Slope: a measure of the steepness of a line on a graph
Linear equation: an equation whose solutions form a straight line on a coordinate plane

Objective: I will be able to use
information from a table to write
a linear equation.
Examples & Steps
I will be able to use information from a table to write a linear equation.
How do you write an equation to model a linear relationship given a table?
Writing Linear Equations from a table
CACC 8.F.4: Construct a function to model a linear relationship between two quantities. Determine the rate of change and initial value of the function from a description of a relationship or from two (x,y) values, including reading these from a table or from a graph.Interpret the rate of change and initial value of a linear function in terms of the situation it models.

Essential Question: How do
you write an equation to
model a linear relationship
given a table?
Steps:
Example #1
1) Find out if the relationship is linear.
2) Choose any two ordered pairs and plug them in this equation:
3)Find the y-intercept. use the slope and any point
from the graph. use the equation substitute for y, m, and x.
4) solve the equation.
5) Put the slope and y-intercept in slope-intercept form.
The table shows how much an air-conditioning company charges for different numbers of hours of work. Find the slope and y-intercept from the table then write the equation in slope-intercept form.

5.2 Writing Linear Equations from a Table
Y-intercept: the point of a
line that crosses the y-axis.
The table shows the cost of a large pizza with toppings at a local pizzeria. Find the slope and y-intercept from the table. Then write the equation for the table in slope-intercept form.

x value 8 is your
y-intercept.
Equation for this table: y=2x+8
