"the others"
Demonstrate an awareness of how language and meaning are shaped by culture and context.
"minority groups can no longer be contained – ignored"
- A racial, religious, political, national, or other group thought to be different from the larger group of which it is part.
- A group having little power or representation relative to other groups within a society.
"The shock of recognition! In an electronic information environment, minority groups can no longer be contained – ignored. Too many people know too much about each other. Our new environment compels commitment and participation. We have become irrevocably involved with, and responsible for, each other."

2013
Black and Latino law enforcement groups are protesting the prospect of having Raymond Kelly head the Department of Homeland Security, citing his controversial stop-and-frisk policy and the Muslim surveillance program.
2011
Hundreds of African Americans and Hispanics marched the nearly 18-kilometer length of Manhattan on Monday, to show solidarity with New York's "Occupy Wall Street" protest.
- Technology has allowed the minority group to reach out to each other.
-The minorities no longer feel small, they now feel powerful through the use of technology, connecting them to each other.
- They are "united" through the use of technology, and they can connect easier to others like them, and as a result, they are no longer dormant.
Bibliography
Homosexuals have always been present. Because of he prejudice they've been subjected to over the centuries, they kept their preferences secret. Homosexuality was a criminal offense in some countries.

Up to about 1960 homosexuality was listed as a mental illness, but now a person can openly state his or her sexual preferences without incurring the contempt they would have suffered in years gone by. They are able to be open up about it and find acceptance in society without fear of being penalized for it.
In the digital age, everyone is connected, and is able to freely say and express whatever they want to convey.
Social Media has significantly changed language over the years:

- Short cuts (like = lyk, that = dat, you = u)
- Acronyms (YOLO, OMG, LOL)
- Textspeak

Through social media, it has become possible to easily access someone's personal information – even their current location.
As we now are exposed to digital technology, we have the want to know more about others around us.
The word "gay" now as a different meaning, which is "homosexual".
If you like this Prezi, you should give it a thumbs up!
