Transcript of In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Our research we conducted before we started production helped us to further understand our chosen genre. During our research we found out the different conventions and elements that go into making a film typical of our genre. This helped us as we were able to use the conventions and also knew how to contrast them and try and expand the genre. For example we researched the editing techniques used in Requiem For A Dream as this film is similar genre to ours. We therefore looked at using similar techinques to recreate the style of the film. We also looked into directors that have created films similar to the style that we want to create. We were then able to look at what techniques the director used to create the style of the film. For example we looked into Darren Aronofsky who created Pi, Requiem For Dream and more recently The Wrestler. By looking at these films we are able to use similar techniques to achieve a similar style. I think that it is clear from this trailer that the film has a very distinct style which we have tried to replicate in our work. This is a shot that inspired us and we have created a similar shot at the end of our film. The same applys to this "headcam" shot also from Requiem for a Dream On our blog we have looked closely into the editing of this film and have tried to replicate it in our film. Another peice of inspiration for our film which supports the genre is a scene from PI, another Darren Aronofsky film. This was the inspiration for our final scene where the main character kills himself. Overall I think our film mirrors the conventions typical of this genre in order to create the right style and make the audience aware of the intension of the film. It was vital for us to look closely into the conventions by looking films like PI and Requiem For A Dream which I beleive our film has a similar feel too. During our research we also looked into short films such as strangers to get the wider conventions of the short film. It was important to do this for us so that our audience felt like it was a short film.
