Purpose
: to show how if you remove the foundation, the whole thing collapses
What was the result?
For the first time in history, lay people were able to read the Bible in the
vernacular
.
Luther hoped that this would help bring everyone on the same page
But what actually happened was multiple opinions of the faith that led to what we now know as Protestant
denominations

Pope Leo X excommunicated Luther in 1521
However, by this time, other reformers had already begun to separate themselves from the Catholic Church and create new denominations of Christianity.
Who can be saved?
Jesus established his Church to continue his mission:
the salvation of all
The fullness of salvation subsists in the Catholic Church
However, Christian denominations share elements of grace and truth which make them the Church of Christ
