filmmaker, entrepreneur, executive In the Wonderful World of Disney I Present to you... Walt Disney went to school by day and the Academy of Fine Arts at night. When the World War 1 broke out, Walt Disney tried to join the army but he was to young. So he lied to the Red Cross and was flown overseas where he drove a ambulance, which he covered in cartoon characters. After warm Walt Disney headed to Hollywood with his drawing
materials and $40. He opened a store with his brother making animated films and quickly became recognized in Hollywood. In 1928, Mickey Mouse was created and made an appearance in the world's first cartoon with sound. Mickey was first used in a
silent cartoon entitled "Place Crazy." Along with Mickey Mouse came... Bambi Pinocchio Cinderella Snow White and the Seven Dawfs In 1955, he opened a theme park in Southern CA called Disneyland. Along with that he had a serious show called Disneyland which promoted his theme park. The Mickey Mouse Club(1955) and Zorro(1957) was produced but what really toped things off was when the musical fantasy Mary Poppins(1964) began. Walt Disney is a legend and a folk hero of the 20th century. His worldwide popularity was based upon the ideas which his name represents, imagination, optimism and self made success in the American Tradition. Walt Disney died of complications from lung cancer on December 15, 1966 at St. Joseph's Hospital across the street from his studio.He was creamated, and his ashes were placed in a family crypt at Forest Lawn Merorial Park in Glendale, California. He was only 65.
After the death of Walt Disney, his brother Roy would follow plans through and the Walt Disney World theme park was opened to the public in 1971. The company continued to grow after the death of walt disney and is now one of the a largest media and entertainments in the world.
