Transcript of Fortunately……..Unfortunately

Abe Lincoln's Reelection
Slavery abolishment
Fortunately, slavery was abolished because Abraham Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclamation, which stated that slavery was ABOLISHED!
Unfortunately, millions of Africans Americans needed housing, education, clothing, food and jobs. Also, discrimination and segregation was starting to begin.
The End of the Civil War...

Fortunately, General Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox Courthouse in Virginia in 1865 and the Union won!!! After that the C.S.A(Confederate States of America) came back to the Union.
Unfortunately, Richmond was in ruins and the smell of burnt wood was everywhere. Also, C.S.A money had no use and railroads were destroyed.

Freedmen's Bureau
Jim Crow Laws
Fortunately, Abraham Lincoln was reelected in 1864 as president of the United States of America. He was part of the Union and wanted slavery to be abolished.
Unfortunately, Abraham Lincoln was shot at Ford's Theater by John Wilkes Booth. That was only 5 days after Lee surrendered to Grant.
Reconstruction Project

Changes in economy
Fortunately, people did not use slaves as money anymore. They also did not auction slaves anymore. That was because the 13th Amendment abolished slavery. Also, railroads were better because now they had refrigerated.
Unfortunately, African Americans did not have as much money as the Americans since they just got freed by the Freedman's Bureau.
Fortunately, they managed to build the nation again and the Confederate returned to the Union. Also, there were public schools in all of the states of the U.S. Finally, there was a U.S. federal government agency called Freedman's Bureau that helped freemen (freed slaves) while the Reconstruction era was happening.
Unfortunately, the Ku Klux Klan was founded in 1866, which was in the Reconstruction era. The Ku Klux Klan used terrorism to prevent the African Americans from making communities in the South.

Fortunately, Freedmen's Bureau was a government agency that took care of freed slaves and poor black and white people. They took care of education, homes and food.
Unfortunately, the Freedmen's Bureau used a lot of money for the government. Also, the economy was going down, down, down!
Fortunately, Jim Crow laws were bad but there
were many hero's such as Martin Luther King Jr.
gave his famous speech to stop segregation. Also
Rosa Parks was a great hero.
Unfortunately, in the southern states, although slavery ended, segregation was happening. African Americans had to go in the colored bathrooms, restaurants and schools. Also, they had to drink from separate drinking fountains.
Fortunately, land owners got paid from poor white farmers and enslaved African Americans after they rented land from the landlords. Also, the white farmers and enslaved African Americans rented land and got to grow their own crops.
Unfortunately, enslaved Africans Americans and poor white farmers had to pay the landlord with a share of their crops right after they harvested the crops.

African American Rights
Fortunately, it helped freed African Americans to have their own lives. When thy were slaves, they could not live their own lives and had to work for other people.
Unfortunately, some of the African American rights did not let the African Americans to be with the Americans.
Poll taxes
Fortunately, poll taxes let the black men vote but under one condition........ which you will hear later. The blacks 1st wasn't able to vote until poll taxes came.
Unfortunately as I said before blacks could vote but only under one condition Blacks had to pay to actually vote. blacks usually would not be able to vote because they couldn't afford it.
before we finish here is a video of Reconstruction
