Juxtaposition and Antithesis
Juxtaposition in Rhetoric
Place side by side often done to compare the two and see how different they are. This creates contrast by calling attention to the dissimilar ideas.
Antithesis
Opposition, or contrast of ideas or words in a balanced or parallel structure
Example: black and white

Antithesis in Rhetoric
To contrast things that are evidently different for effect.

Example: "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us" Charles Dickens- Tales of Two Cities
Juxtaposition
The act or instance of placing two things side by side to emphasize their contrast.
Example: An art gallery might put two paintings from two different eras juxtaposed with each other to show how different they are.

Juxtaposition vs. Antithesis
Juxtaposition comparisons are not obviously opposites and antithesis is obviously opposite but it depends on how the author uses it.
