Oprah Winfrey Oprah Winfrey is a famous television host who's known for her hospitality and greatness in front and behind the cameras. In 1986, she revealed to the public through her TV show that she was molested when she was 9 by her family members and lived in poverty that she had to wear potato sacks as clothing. Due to this traumatizing experience, she had to run away from her house. By age 14, Oprah got pregnant and her son died shortly after birth leaving her depressed. Being successful at school, she moved to a new school but was bullied and poverty was rubbed in her face that's why she stole money from her mother. Her mother got frustrated so she had to move to Tennessee from Wisconsin where she prioritized her education and became an honor student. As she was growing up to be an adult, Oprah tried to overcome her bad childhood experiences by starting a new life and continued her career as a communication major. Melinda and Oprah Winfrey has some similarities through their life as they were growing up. Both of the characters had rough experiences in which both of them were sexually assaulted by someone at a very young age. At the beginning, Melinda didn't say anything about it that she had to hide the truth in her chest. Oprah never did anything about it either and chose not to say anything in the beginning. However, both had tried overcoming their bad experiences but just in a slightly different way. When Melinda couldn't stand keeping her feelings in, she bravely told Rachel that her boyfriend, Andy caused all this. Rachel didn't believe at first then soon realized that he's in fault. Oprah moved to a different state and prioritized her education and career. She later became one of the world's most influential people, an opposite of her past.
