- UAE ratified the Convention in 1990

- Illegal wildlife trafficking comprises the fourth largest global illegal trade estimated at between US$ 7.8 billion and US$ 10 billion per year

- EWS-WWF started working on CITES/illegal trade related issues in 2001 - building the local capacity of UAE enforcement and implementing authorities

- EWS-WWF works closely with the UAE authorities to offer advice and input on issues related to combating illegal wildlife trade

- WWF currently has a global campaign on illegal wildlife trade focusing on ivory, rhino horn and tigers.
