add := (x, y) -> x + y
sub := (x, y) -> x - y
mult := (x, y) -> x * y
divide := (x, y) -> x / y
exp := (x, y) -> x ^ y

In Computer Science
Everything is a Function
1 = 1
2 = 1 + 1
3 = 1 + 1 + 1
4 = 1 + 1 + 1 + 1
1 * 2 = 2
2 * 2 = 2 + 2
3 * 2 = 2 + 2 + 2
4 * 2 = 2 + 2 + 2 + 2
3 = 3
3 = 3 * 3
3 = 3 * 3 * 3
3 = 3 * 3 * 3 * 3
The 1-2-3's of Math
Math = Universal Language
Based on Logic
Is a "Discovery of the Natural World" or "Invention Used to Describe Natural Phenomena"?
(Pictures taken off the interwebz from miscellaneous sources using Google Images)
that you're learning now AND in life come back to you
answers WHY things are the way they are
answers HOW to solve problems of everyday life
inspired by "Math is not linear" Prezi Presentation by Alison Blank
. . . . Stats & Trig gets thrown in somewhere along the line
an entire class just to get ready for Calculus -__-
How "they" WANT you to learn
problem solving, "plug 'n chug"
where you all are now. math in terms of functions
or "Analytical Geometry"
And That's Why
e + 1 = 0
pi * i

Yeah, I totally stole this from Alison Blank
Really awesome prezi, by the way, you should totally take a look at it!
...I'm not going to get in trouble for copyright, am I?

"Math is a passionate subject, an expression like art or music. It is a human endeavor like anything else."
- Dr. Joaquin Bustoz
to go on Random Tangents
"The essence of mathematics is not to make simple things complicated, but to make complicated things simple."
- Dr. Stanley Gudder
Well, What is ?
Used to Communicate Abstract
Thoughts, Ideas, and Processes
To a Wide Range of Audiences
As Such, we can Expand and Spread
our Knowledge to one Another and
get to Where we are Today
so what's the point in repeating the same process over & over again?
Thanks to the Use of Recursive Formulas and Functions, Computer Simulations & Graphing Calculators are able to Produce some Pretty Amazing Effects.
Even in Nature, you can find:
in the Anatomy of Living Creatures (Biology)
in the Behavior of Atomic Structures (Chemistry)
in the Motion and Movement of Matter (Physics)
So What am I Asking you for?
Whatever you end up doing, there will be some time in your life you'll be using math
If you don't, how will you ever learn the things YOU want to learn?
And there is (or will be) something out there you're fascinated in
How Math Should be
Predictable & Useful
in Everyday Life !
& Exciting !
The "Invention" of Zero is (arguably) Contributed to
the Babylonians, Mayans, AND Indians!!! o.O
More Stuff I Didn't Talk About that Would have Made this Ridiculously Long Presentation Even Longer!
(What I do)
= Golden Ratio
= = =
a a + b
1 + sqrt(5)
Without a Limit ! ! !
haha Calculus Joke
pg. 26, From the book:
The word algebra is derived from the Arabic word al-jabr…[which] means 'a restoration,' a reference to the fact that, if a number is added to one side of an equation, then it must also be added to the other side in order to 'restore' the equality…Of course, today, algebra has come to mean a great deal more."
(Prof. from University of Denver, CO)
What is ?
Math is Beautiful
& even Magical !
Music: Sound of Numbers
Pi vs Tau vs Phi
Please take a moment to look though the Fractals. =)
