Speed and Velocity
Distance - time Graphs
Velocity - Time graphs
For an object moving at a steady speed in a straight line, the distance it travels and the time it takes are related as:
A straight diagonal line means an object is travelling at constant speed. The steeper the slope of the graph, the greater the speed it represents. Boys should be able to calculate the gradient of a distance-time graph.
How fast is Usain Bolt?
What about in Kmh?

Velocity, acceleration and Graphs
Tricky Extension Qu.
An arrow is fired vertically into the air at 30m/s. Given that the acceleration due to gravity is 10m/s^2
how fast is the arrow moving after 1s,2s,3s,4s....?
How long does it take the arrow to reach maximum height?
What is the average speed, therefore what is the maximum height reached?
Draw a velocity time graph for the motion
What is the value of the area under the graph
Supersonic Freefall - Red Bull Stratos CGI
Draw the velocity time graph for an object falling from a height of 45m to the ground on earth?
Ignore air resistance
How do special forces parachute with large bags and not damage themselves when landing?
Close-proximity wing suit flying
Why do object fall at the same rate if their weight is different?
Dropping objects in the worlds largest vacuum chamber
Draw the velocity time graph for a parachutist falling earth, opening their parachute and then landing
Add to the graph the resultant forces at each point
Draw a distance time graph if you have time
Experiment Part 1:
Sketch the velocity time graph of a car traveling at 20m/s coming to a halt. The drive reacts to the danger in 0.5s and takes a further 4s to come to a halt. What is the de-acceleration of the car and the total stopping distance?
