Transcript of Respiratory System

Takes the oxygen from the outside air to the blood
Structures Of The Respiratory System
Functions of the
Respiratory System
Factors That Assist With Functioning
A Look Inside The Respiratory System
-The respiratory system allows us to breathe
-The respiratory system is divided into two parts:
The upper tract
The lower tract
-Made up of the organs
-Respiration means breathing
-Breathing is to deliver oxygen
- Keep structures clean
-Helps prevent colds and allergies

Transports carbon dioxide

Upper Tract

The upper tract contains the:
Nose
Mouth
Beginning of the trachea
Lower Tract
Lungs
Trachea
Bronchi
Bronchiole
Alveoli

Diseases of the
Respiratory system
Pneumonia
Bronchitis
Tonsillitis
Asthma
Influenza (the flu)
Lung Cancer

Respiratory System Relationship
Require oxygen
Provides oxygen to cells
Contains lungs
Smooth muscle tissue

Interesting Facts
Upper Tract

The upper tract contains the:
Nose
Mouth
Beginning of the trachea (the section that inhales and exhales air)
Lower Tract
Lungs: Pair of organs within the rib cage, which allows oxygen to pass into blood and takes away carbon dioxide
Trachea: A tube connecting the throat to the bronchi
Bronchi: The trachea separates into two bronchi tubes
Bronchiole: The bronchi divides off to smaller tubes
Alveoli: Small air sacs in the lungs

The lower tract includes:
The right lung is slightly larger than the left.
A person usually breathes from 12-15 times a minute
The highest recorded “sneeze speed” is 165 km per hour
Hairs in the nose help clean and warm the air we breathe!
We lose half a litre of water a day through breathing
The breathing rate is faster in children and women than in men
Horses only breath through their noses
A person breathes about 20,000 times a day
