Transcript of Respiratory System Flowchart

The Respiratory System A colorless, odorless, tasteless, gaseous mixture, mainly of nitrogen and oxygen, with lesser amounts of carbon dioxide and other gases. The Oral and Nasal cavities, or mouth and nose, are two cavities which extend from the face to the pharynx. The membrane-lined cavity behind the nose and mouth, connecting them to the esophagus. The hollow muscular organ forming an air passage to the lungs (also holds the vocal cords in humans and other mammals). A large membranous tube reinforced by rings of cartilage, extending from the larynx to the bronchial tubes and conveying air to and from. Two main branches of the trachea that go into the lungs. Either of two spongy, sac like respiratory organs in most vertebrates, occupying the chest cavity together with the heart and functioning to remove carbon dioxide from the blood and provide it with oxygen. The small airways of the lung extending from the bronchi to the alveoli. Tiny, delicate air sacs deep within the lungs where the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide takes place.
