What Was the Industrial Revolution
Innovations in the 1700's led to the ever increasing productivity while requiring less human energy.
Industrial Revolution( 1700-1800 )
Factors for Britain to lead the way
Greatest deposit of coal and iron ore
Politically stable society
High growth of population; gigantic reservoir of workers
They needed more efficient methods of production to provide for so many people, and trading with other countries
Extremely productive and wealthy agriculture system
Astonishing number of creative inventors
Due to the advancements in technologies of industry
Changes in technology, society, medicine, economy, education, culture
Replaced wood with coal and iron
Cities boomed, became more industrial and powerful
Supported the capitalists practices, methods, and principles
Helped create a large middle class
Supply and Demand was big factor
Increased material wealth
Powerful force for social change (Socialism)
Aristocracy to Socialism
Everyone worked for the succession of the group
Economic Collapse in 1819
Only men with money and property rights could vote
No women regardless of their wealth could vote
The House of Lords could overrule any law passed by the House of Commons
Only men could be in the Houses of Commons and Lords
Innovations took place from 18th to 19th century
Inventions formed the industrial revolution.
Newcomen was a black smith from Dartmouth, England.
Before Newcomens Inventors, Edward Somerset of Worcester, Thomas Savery, and John Desaguliers were researching the steam technology
Invented the first steam engine
Thomas's design and idea would later be modified and advanced to be productive.
James Hargreaves was born in Oswaldtwistle England in 1720. James was a british carpenter.
Invented the Spinning Jenny.
Machine spins more than one ball of yarn at a time.
Allowing cloths to be made easier and faster
Invented in Stanhill Lancashire England
Increasing population demanded more yarn for clothing and Spinning Jenny supplied the demand.
Scottish Inventor and mechanical engineer
1764 Watt was given a Newcomen model to repair. The model inefficient was redesigned to improve productivity.
Condenser chamber was invented to prevent enormous steam loss.

Downfall was that it crowded cities and created bad working conditions for the poor and working class
Working conditions were dangerous
Unskilled workers had little job security and replaced easily
Children worked long hours and did most of the dangerous jobs like cleaning machines
People replaced by machines
Diseases from unsanitary working conditions
Born December 23, 1732
Known as "Father of Industrial Revolution"
In 1775 he created spinning frame, later called water frame when use of water power was available
Able to mass produce cotton into thread for multiple uses
Improved carding engine; converted raw cotton buds into continuous skein of cotton fibers, then made into yarn
Created the modern factory system
Changed material production, wealth, labor patterns, and population distribution
Urbanization (countryside to cities)
Made a path for the rest of the world to follow to convert to machines
Made Britain very wealthy and powerful country
More inventions created and factories built for people to work in
The metal Industry changed dramatically replacing wood and bio-foils with coal.
Started somewhat before the Industrial revolution but went into full effect in the industrial revolution.
Sir Clement Clerke and others from 1678 used and designed the coal reverberatory furnace.
Henry Cort- In 1783 rolling was invented and in 1784 puddling was invented
Rolling replaced hammering which increase production
Puddling was a means of decarburizing pig iron by slow oxidation.
Factory & Production
The Industrial Revolution is defined as Agrarian and rural societies forming into Industrial and urban societies. This image clashes the two societies and how they have developed. The horse and rider represent the pre-industrial agrarian society while the train shows the developments in technology and transit.
In the development of the the industrial revolution factory production increased. The Increase of factory production led to the increase in jobs and labor demands. The main source of cheap labor was found in the children. This picture shows the average child workers. Child labor was usually underpaid and very demanding resulting in a unsafe environment.
With advancements in technology which could increase production, came the factory. Inventions such as the steam engine, spinning jenny and the power loom Brought about an increase in jobs and production of these products. Factories such as the ones in this picture show the industrialization of the societies.
In 1712 the first steam engine is created and then in 1769 the steam engine is made more efficient and powerful. With the invention of steam power Transit and production changed for ever. Before, the man and animal were the main source of power and work. The steam engine in this picture allows for quicker transit and trading.
Government started to begin taking control of businesses and property
Economic cooperation replaces competition
Goal is a classless society
Would embrace the exploited worker
It stated that workers should be there own bosses instead of following orders in the factories
They didn't like the idea of working for someone else and getting them rich
Wanted the control over their work that they once had
Karl Marx- influential socialist
Factory machines changed the world because it increased the supply of products. It made things in a more efficient and faster way . The bad part about it was that it put some people out of work that specialized in it but also created more jobs in factories.
The pioneer of the Spinning industry
in 1779 Cropton invented the Spinning Mule
was not industrialized for some time and Samuel debated whether to commercialize his invention for some time.
Importance of the Spinning mule...
Spun yarn that was siutable for the production of clothing across the world
Could spin threads better than could be done by hand
Produced threads faster and the highest quality.
The industrialization of a city
The industrial revolution branched out across Europe from Britain. Also, it started in the U.K. and spread
western in about 100 years. Every region became
more industrialized and innovative. Finally,
the spread died around the late 1800s.
The factory industry began to boom with the inventions of various machines
Replacing wood with coal
Tools such as these were replaced by steam and electric driven machines
Cities became crowded and conditions in the city decreased
