Often had pneuonia fever and the flu
Parents worked a long hard day
They still made ends meet with litte pay
Lived in the age of segregation
She overcame polio with determination
In highschool she played basketball
Ed Temple saw her speed and gave her a call
Trained all summer with Tennessee's track team
In 1956 she lived her dream
Again in 1960 a long way from home
She got another chance in Rome
