SKILLS SKILLS HOLISTIC What we know about sub skills model:

It is derived from the behaviorism theory (B.F. Skinner).
Teachers teach the phonic rules explicitly and provide examples by modeling.
This model focuses on transitioning from parts to whole. Reading is broken down into smaller parts to ensure mastery of the language.
Pronunciation mistakes are immediately corrected. It is believed that students learn by imitation.
Repetition and drilling are key to students success. Students in this model are expected to:

Skills also known as "The ecclectic approach"is also derived from Behaviorism (B.F. Skinner) but this method has also been influenced by Behaviorism in Reading (Marilyn Adams).
It is a mix of phonics and holistic instruction.
It starts with phonics and gradually steps up to comprehension. Teaching with skills exposes students to:

This model is based on constructivism theory ( Lev Vytogsky).
This model focuses mainly on comprehension.
It is delivered in implicit instruction.
Students must apply background knowledge on the theme.
This model transitions from whole to part.
It is designed to instill a love for reading and create lifelong readers. Students are exposed to authentic texts:

One assessment method for the Holistic approach is Cloze tests.

Students approach reading in a very different way.
